Organic can mean a lot of different things to different people. An organic lawn care program may not fit everyone’s goals. An organic lawn care program will have no weed killer because there is no organic weed control that we can apply effectively. Organic fertilizer does not provide the “green-up” associated with the synthetic fertilizers. Some lawns may not be good candidates for an organic program initially, but can strive toward being a full organic program.

Our organic fertilizer is 100% non-toxic and is safe for children and animals. The fertilizer provides essential nutrients for the grass and other beneficial nutrients to increase the soil microbial activity. This helps to aid the long term health of the lawn. The fertilizer is meant to feed for 4-6 weeks (depending on soil moisture) so we schedule each application 4-6 weeks apart for a total of 5 applications periods each season.

The best organic programs require specific “cultural” practices to help the program be effective. We need your help to make sure you are happy with your organic lawn. The following practices can help maintain or improve your organic lawn.

4 Keys to a Successful Organic Lawn Care Program

  1. Fertilize – High soil fertility is a must in an organic lawn program. The lawn should also be fed consistently throughout the season every 4 – 6 weeks.
  2. Smart Mowing – The lawn should be maintained at 3” – 3.5” above the soil (not setting #3 on your mower) to reduce stress on the lawn. Increase mowing frequency. You should never cut off more that ⅓ of the grass blade when you mow the lawn. Make sure the blade is very sharp. A dull blade can tear the grass and cause damage.
  3. Water – Light and frequent. Daily watering is very beneficial because it keeps the grass growing and fighting with competition (weeds, insects, etc)
  4. Aeration – Core aeration reduces compaction which allows the root system become more dense. It also allows easier flow of oxygen, water, and fertilizer into the root system of the grass.
